UNDP and WRC Technology Demonstration Programme Phase 2 The Hydro Blu company has successfully completed phase 1 of the United Nations and Water Research Commission’s Technology Demonstration Programme that was hosted in South Africa. During the programme, the framework for the Hydro Blu system was generalized to function on a global scale. Having completed the programme timeously, the company was progressed to the second phase where a system extension will be developed to estimate drill depths in South Africa. This estimation is fundamental when determining the feasibility of a borehole site as projects are charged per meter drilled. In total, the company has been granted R510 000 in Phase 2. Technology Innovation Agency’s Grassroots Programme The company has raised R260 000 from the Technology Innovation Agency’s Grassroots programme to develop the Agri-Planner system – a Geospatial Data Science model to expose the best suited locations for popular agriculture such as maize and wheat. The end-product will be an interactive map that will allow end-users to hone into an area of interest and evaluate. Currently, only 12% of South Africa’s land surface has been deemed as suitable for these crops and it is hoped that Machine Learning methods such as these could expose new areas.
