SMARTXCHANGE WINS 2016 ELAN PROPERTY GROUP KZN TOP BUSINESS AWARD
SmartXchange is a proud winner of the 2016 eLan Property Group KZN Top Business Award, under the category, Community and Social Services. The Awards celebrates successful companies and organisations in KwaZulu-Natal across the economic sectors in both the private and public arenas. SMARTXCHANGE PORT SHEPSTONE MICTE SMME INCUBATOR IS LAUNCHED!
When SmartXchange celebrated its 10 year Anniversary, 2014, ‘RED’ was the topic for future plans, Replication, Expansion and Diversification. And as anticipated, on 14 July 2016, at 54 Mitchel Drive Port Shepstone, SmartXchange, with the support of the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), the Hibiscus Coast Municipality and Vodacom, set ‘RED’ to life with the unveiling of the SmartXchange Port Shepstone Incubator. The unveiling of the plaque in the presence of Madam Mayor of Port Shepstone, Councillor Cynthia Mqwebu, the Minister of Small Business and Corporative Development t, Minister Lindiwe Zulu, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee of Small Business and Corporative Development, Mrs Ruth Bhengu and other dignitaries will truly go down as one of the proudest accolades in SmartXchange history.
THE NATIONAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FORUM SOUTH32 AWARDS
The 18th National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF)-South32 Awards Gala Dinner was held in Gauteng on Thursday, 30 June 2016. Contributions to excellence in science, engineering and technology (SET) and innovation were awarded and celebrated. SmartXchange was the winner in the Non Governmental Sector (NGO) focussing on technology transfer and education /training activities at a function held at Emperors Palace. This award highly celebrated the strides made by SmartXchange in developing and empowering the youth and entrepreneurs in general, in the MICTe sector. SmartXchange is proud.
TAKE A GIRL CHILD TO WORK DAY 2016
SmartXchange was approached by NEF to partner with them in the ‘Take a Girl Child to Work Day’ 2016 which was held at the Durban ICC on 26 May 2016. The form of partnership which was required from SmartXchange was that of MC (Master of Ceremony) duty by Abegail Ndlovu. The event was a success and was highly inspiring to all attendees. The programme line up for the girls included motivational talks from, CEO of the ICC, Ms Lindiwe Rakharebe as well as Ithala Divisional Manager of Group Communications and Marketing, Ms Thuli Galelekile. SOUTH AFRICAN BUSINESS INCUBATION CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION (SABIC) AND GALA DINNER
SmartXchange attended the inaugural South African Business Incubation Conference (SABIC) hosted by the Department of Small Business Development and Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) at the Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Gauteng province from the 10 to 11 March 2016. The theme for the conference was ‘Incubation as a vehicle for Economic Prosperity’ and the aim of the conference was to discuss the following key issues:
– Business incubation policy coherence between the relevant National Departments.
R5 MILLION CHEQUE – TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AGENCY (TIA) REMAINS COMMITTED TO PARTNERSHIP WITH SMARTXCHANGE IN SUPPORTING MICTE SMME
SmartXchange held its annual SMME Awards on the evening of 13 November 2015 at the Garden Court Marine Parade. Benchmarked as SmartXchange’s most prestigious event, this evening showcased, highlighted and celebrated primarily, the achievements of the SMME’s throughout the year and recognised the collaborations between SmartXchange, the SmartXchange SMME’s and strategic partners. A message of support was delivered by the eThekwini Municipality Speaker, Councillor Logie Naidoo congratulating; SmartXchange on being an incubator of note, the 2015 SmartXchange graduates and the 2015
SMARTXCHANGE MICTE SMME AWARDS 2015.
The SmartXchange Stakeholder Breakfast held on 13 April 2016, at the Durban Country Club, was a true reflection of government’s commitment to SMME support, development and economic growth. At the breakfast, Kagiso Ntanga, representative of TIA, expressed how grateful TIA is to SmartXchange to have found in them, a partner that shares the same vision and passion for SMME’s. The focus of this partnership is to provide support to MICTe SMME’s and/or entrepreneurs with a grant funding of up to R500 000.00 as well as incubation support.
ICT PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD 2015 – GOVTECH
In 2015 the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), the annual host of GovTech, introduced the ICT Public Service Awards 2015. At a black tie gala dinner held at the ICC on 25th October 2015, SmartXchange was declared runner up in the category ICT Service Delivery Transformation Award – Local Government. These awards recognized outstanding service delivery, or a product or service, and/or transformation at a local government level. UNIZULU IT STUDENTS VISIT SMARTXCHANGE
SmartXchange hosted 22 Information Technology third year students on from the University of Zululand the 20th August 2015. The students visit to SmartXchange is part of their academic programme. The expectation for this year’s visit was clear as students were looking to receive guidance in exploring entrepreneurship opportunities post graduation. The day’s programme was therefore set in a manner that addressed entrepreneurship particularly in the MICTe sector. MANCOSA GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
On the 20th July 2015, SmartXchange hosted delegates from the Mancosa Graduate School of Business. The visit was a study tour by business executives and senior management from Sub- Sahara Africa. The purpose of the visit was to engage with the stakeholders in analyzing the SmartXchange MICTe incubator model and to interact with the incubatees.
